Upon arrival at the office, patients will be given an intake form to fill out (if they have not already submitted it electronically) to give our team information on their history and what brings them to see us. We will then provide the patient with an iPad to fill out neurocognitive brain health surveys based on the information supplied in the intake paperwork. Once all paperwork is completed, an EEG will be completed.
In the field of brain health, neurocognitive tests are the standard for evaluating how patients feel and respond to treatment. While this is key subjective data, PrTMS® goes further to also collect electroencephalogram (EEG) brainwave activity data for an objective look at how a patient’s brain is functioning. Along with neurocognitive test data, irregularities in cortical activity detected with EEGs are analyzed to inform treatment.
After the EEG is completed, this patient-specific data is used to create a proposed treatment plan personalized to each patient’s unique brain, which is verified and approved by a qualified PrTMS® provider. This customization allows the therapy to be delivered at a lower intensity than with conventional TMS treatment. We will review the scan result with the patient, and they will receive a copy of the details for their records. Patients’ brain function is evaluated regularly during the course of the treatment plan, and therapy is modified after every 5 sessions to provide each patient with optimal results.
You would not prescribe the same dose or even the same drug to every patient, even if they had the same symptoms or condition. The same should be true with TMS therapy. However, with conventional TMS, essentially the same treatment is delivered to every patient, regardless of their condition, circumstance, or degree of brainwave frequency disturbance.
Normal brainwave frequencies range from 8 to 12 hertz, with the exact number varying from individual to individual. Conventional TMS therapy often takes a one-size-fits-all approach by seeking to align patients to the average, about 10 hertz. In contrast, PrTMS® therapy is designed to align brainwaves to the patient’s personal optimal frequency.
When it is time for patients to receive their PrTMS® therapy, they are seated in a comfortable chair and placed in a slightly reclined position. The arm of the unit is placed in several positions, as per the personalized treatment plan, and treatment is delivered. PrTMS® therapy involves magnetic pulses targeting specific areas of the brain. It is safe, medication-free, and particularly effective for depression and anxiety. However, it has shown excellent results in many areas of brain health. A gentle yet impactful approach, treatments are typically 6-8 weeks, 20 minutes each.
